Minor soccer: Peace Arch awarded Cup win
The Peace Arch Selects have been awarded a win in the aftermath of a weekend Under-15 boys soccer playoff game against Guildford Metro that was abandoned after fighting broke out.
The game was tied 1-1 late in regulation when the violence began in the Guildford goal area.
The B.C. Soccer Association awarded the win to the Selects Wednesday. Peace Arch will now advance to the next round of the U-15 Coastal A Cup playdowns.
Guildford has the right to appeal the game result although the team is currently suspended by the Surrey Metro Soccer Association pending a disciplinary hearing.
The Peace Arch team and its individual players were not suspended for their role in the incident.
In other play, the Surrey B.A.A. Nitro Elite rolled into the girls U-14 Metro Coastal A Cup final by toppling the Abbotsford Titans 4-1 in semifinal play.
Surrey's Lacey Erickson opened the scoring in the first within the first minute of play and the Nitros never looked back. Defenders Laura Baird, Cassandra San and Amber Devriendt worked hard to quash the Titans attack.
Meanwhile, Surrey United Rage stormed into the girls U-15 Metro Coastal A Cup final with a 1-0 penalty-kick win over the Burnaby Titans.
Despite having a player ejected in the opening five minutes of play, the shorthanded Surrey team was able to keep the game scoreless through the remaining 75 minutes of regulation time and two overtimes.
In the sixth round of the shoot-out, Rage goalie Leah Riske came up with the save before Chantelle Whitehead netted the winner.
Elsewhere: North Delta United made the most of a shoot-out round to knock off the Surrey Supra A's in the boys U-12 Gold Conference Cup finale.
The Supra opened the scoring but North Delta equalized with a goal by Tyler Hammill before the end of regulation.
Surrey took the lead again in the second overtime period only to have North Delta reply with a goal by Travis Rose to force the shoot-out.
In the fifth round of penalty kicks, Cory Carlisle scored for North Delta while United goalie Marcel Buchler stopped Surrey's final shot to give North Delta the 3-2 win.
